This lively enclave is packed with restaurants whose menus
feature fish and seafood, and a great variety of bars and cafes open
24 hours a day.
The setting for Ciutadella’s nightlife is a picturesque port which stretches
along for one kilometre. This is where the biggest selection of the city’s
restaurants, bars and discotheques are to be found and is a lively place at any
time of day.
The Port de Ciutadella retains the charm and elegance of past times. It is located
at the foot of the walls which surrounded this aristocratic and stately city
in the past, and which were re-built during the 16th and 17th Centuries after
the brutal attack by the Turks in 1558.
Today, this city’s largest and most varied leisure offer is concentrated
along this one-kilometre-long mouth, where different size boats bob up and down
at their moorings, ranging from the small, typical llaüts to modern
pleasure boats.
This, for example, is where the restaurant of the Club Nàutic (Sailing
Club) of Ciutadella is located, one of the most traditional places in the locality.
Pride of place on its menu goes to the fish and seafood which the fishermen bring
back daily in their boats; one of the many options is the delicious lobster stew.
There are also other restaurants which are highly considered in gastronomic circles,
such as Can Manolo, where the fish and seafood of the Menorcan coast are equally
present; clams, rice dishes cooked in stock, grilled prawns...
All the restaurants which line the Port are known for their high quality, fresh
products, and the charm of this place provides an additional touch. Most have
a terrace just a few metres from the mooring berths, leaving just enough space
for a constant stream of people to stroll along and admire the beautiful setting
and combination of elements.
But there are not only restaurants. Some of the most crowded bars of the area
are to be found here, such as the Tritón bar, which is open almost twenty
four hours a day and where the fisherman stop off to have breakfast every morning
after they return from their work. The same can be said about the Café Balear;
here it is the owners who go out fishing in search of fish and seafood.
The selection of bars is also very varied. Jazz lovers, for example, can enjoy
a visit to an authentic sanctuary dedicated to this type of music. It is called
Sa Clau and is set up in an old cave where the boats used to be moored for the
winter.
Lining the one-kilometre-long Port de Ciutadella is a wide variety of bars, restaurants
and discotheques. Consult the prices in the different places.
